Sealers

Should I Seal?

The short answer is Yes.

The long answer is Absolutely!

Properly sealing your marble, travertine, limestone, and granite, floors, counters, and showers is highly recommended for the long-term protection and maintenance of your stone surfaces.

Quality Stone Restoration offers high-quality sealers that protect against water and oil borne staining, and will make routine maintenance cleanings easier and more effective.

We use only the best, highest-quality sealers. There are two main types of sealers: penetrating sealers and topical sealers.  In the majority of situations, we use penetrating sealers, as these sealers are the industry standard.  Some companies may try to sell you on using a topical sealer as a quick, cheap way to get a shine on your floor.  However,  topical sealers can damage stone in the long term.  By not allowing the stone to breathe, topical sealers can trap moisture under the surface, which, for some stones, can lead to wide-spread spalling.  Spalling is when small chunks of the stone dislodge.  This can lead to repairs so costly, it may make more sense just to replace the floor.  Moreover, a topical sealer is difficult to strip when you eventually need to reseal.

Advantages of Sealing

Penetrating sealers allow the stone to breathe, tend to be easier to keep clean, allow the natural beauty of the stone to show through, and are much more straight forward to clean, whether professionally or through regular maintenance.

Quality Stone Restoration offers a variety of high quality penetrating sealers to best suit your needs.

It is important to note that no sealer will keep your stone from getting dirty, but will allow for a much easier and more effective clean.  Even if you have no intention of regularly cleaning your stone, when you get it professionally cleaned in the future, that clean will be more effective than if your stone went years without being sealed.
